St. George Illawarra Dragons vs Dolphins Preview
The Dolphins are striving to bounce back and stay in the hunt for a top-four berth, but theyll need to win back-to-back interstate games for the first time in their history by taking down inscrutable St George Illawarra at Netstrata Jubilee.
The 7-7 Dragons are in a share of sixth (ninth on the ladder) and shape as a genuine finals hope if they can find some consistency.
Impressive consecutive wins over a weakened Panthers (22-10) and the struggling Tigers (56-14) was followed up by a disappointing 30-14 defeat to injury-ravaged Manly after leading at halftime.
Moses Suli is back in the centres for the Saints, with Christian Tuipolotu dropping out. Origin trio Ben Hunt, Jaydn SuA and Zac Lomax are named to back up.
The Dolphins have lost three of their last four, pulling off a notable 30-28 win at Cronulla (after coughing up a 22-point lead) before going down 30-24 to Melbourne in a Suncorp Stadium barnburner.
Even amid the losses, though, the sophomore club are increasingly shaping as the real deal.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is set to line up following Origin, while Felise Kaufusi is on the bench and Tesi Niu replaces a concussed Jack Bostock on the wing.
The Dolphins lead the head-to-head 2-1. The ledger was square in 2023, before a Tabuai-Fidow hat-trick spearheaded a 38-0 rout in Round 2 this year in Redcliffe.
Jubilee has not proved the most reliable home venue for the Saints going 13-17 since mid-2018 and 1-1 this year but the Dolphins, slight favourites in this one, are just 3-9 interstate in the NRL.
The Dolphins last eight games have been decided by 1-12 margins including seven by six points or less.
Ill sit on the fence and back them to be involved in another cliffhanger, with this pivotal clash shaping as an absolute coin-flip.
