Preview:

Round 14 gets under way at Win Stadium with St. George hosting North Queensland.

The Dragons posted their fifth win of the season last week, their first in three weeks, with a 14-8 win over Newcastle in Newcastle, with St. George fullback Josh Duggan crossing twice.

The win sees the Dragons four points outside of the top eight and with a Bye to follow this game, they’ll leave nothing to spare as they try to keep tabs with the top half of the competition.

North Queensland recorded their fifth successive loss last week, losing to Canterbury 36-26 in Townsville and things keep getting worse.

Speculation is rife that Cowboys Coach, Neil Henry’s days are numbered and earlier this week, key forward James Tamou was caught drink driving and is currently under investigation by the club and will not line up for the team this week.

The Cowboys have won the past two encounters between the two clubs but in their current state of disarray, they’ll struggle to make it three in a row.

Thurston back for struggling Cowboys

Jonathan Thurston will return from injury for North Queensland this week as the ailing Cowboys desperately attempt to turn their NRL season around.

Queensland five-eighth Thurston carried a groin problem into State of Origin I last Wednesday and clearly struggled with the injury in the Maroons’ 14-8 loss.

He didn’t take the field in the Cowboys’ defeat to Canterbury last weekend.

The superstar playmaker has been selected to take his place in the Cowboys’ side on Friday against St George Illawarra in Wollongong, with coach Neil Henry under increasing pressure as his side have won just four of 13 games so far this season.

NSW prop James Tamou has also been named in the Cowboys’ line-up after being charged with unlicensed driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He is set to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 2 and the club released a statement saying he would not contest the charge.

In a boost to the Cowboys, winger Ash Graham returns from an ankle injury in place of Kalifa Faifai Loa.

Michael Morgan moves aside for Thurston.
