A recent upswing has sparked hope of hapless Wests Tigers defying one of the NRLs most lopsided rivalry records on Sunday against the heavyweight Sydney Roosters.
The Roosters have won 17 of their last 18 against the Tigers, including the last seven in a row. The previous three showdowns have seen the Tricolours score 144 points to 20.
But after losing nine in a row the Tigers have hauled themselves off the bottom of the ladder with a dour win over the Titans at Leichhardt (18-10) and a rousing, drought-breaking demolition of the Raiders at Campbelltown (48-24).
Lachie Galvin put aside recent dramas to score two tries, the highlight of a superb collective display from the embattled joint ventures batch of young guns, while Api Koroisaus status as a leader continues to flourish.
The Tigers welcome back David Klemmer from suspension, while John Bateman and Justin Olam lurk in the reserves.
Luke Laulilii and Adam Doueihi retain backline spots after notable tryscoring appearances last week.
The 9-6 Roosters have clawed into the top four with consecutive hard-fought wins over the Eels (28-18) and Bulldogs (26-8).
The latter was the first time since Round 3 they have conceded less than 18 points as a familiar hardened edge begins to materialise.
The Roosters three-quarter line stocks continue to dwindle following Junior Paugas suspension, which sees Sitili Tupouniua come in at centre.
Lindsay Collins is named on the bench following an Origin assignment, as is Spencer Leniu, but Connor Watson and Angus Crichton are set to start.
The Tigers have lost 10 in a row at the new and old Sydney Football Stadium, while the Roosters are a modest 3-3 at their Allianz base in 2024.
