Taylor must shine for Qld recall: Inglis

Greg Inglis has urged Dave Taylor to realise his immense talent and power his way back into the Queensland State of Origin side.

Inglis will come up against his mercurial former South Sydney teammate in Cairns on Sunday for the first time since he joined the Gold Coast.

The giant back-rower has shown signs in recent weeks that he’s edging back to his best form having been stood down by the Titans in April for breaching team rules.

Inglis played alongside Taylor in the opening two games of last year’s Origin series before the 24-year-old was axed by coach Mal Meninga after an error-riddled display in the game two defeat in Sydney.

The Souths fullback admits he’s often looked on in awe at Taylor’s ability to play like a halfback despite his 188cm, 122kg frame, but wants him to show he belongs in the Origin arena as a barnstorming forward.

“Dave’s been playing outstanding footy,” said Inglis.

“The thing with him is that he has the skill of a five-eighth, but he just has to realise he’s in the forwards.”

Queensland came off second best to the Blues’ forwards in game one last week as NSW sealed a 14-6 win at ANZ Stadium.

Taylor, at his best, would be a huge addition off the bench for Meninga’s side and, while some have questioned his attitude, Inglis believes a lack of self-belief is the real issue.

“The biggest thing we want from Dave is to get the ball and run,” he said.

“He doesn’t realise the potential he has.

“When he does, he’ll be the most dangerous player in the game.”
