Tests clear Dureau after health scare

Former Newcastle NRL halfback Scott Dureau has cleared another hurdle in his bid to resume his playing career with the Catalan Dragons in the English Super League.

The 26-year-old Australian made his comeback last month after undergoing surgery in January to remove a brain tumour but complained of double vision during his second game back at Widnes 10 days ago.

Dureau was rushed to a hospital in Manchester but was able to fly back to France with his team-mates the following morning and has been having further tests in both Perpignan and Toulouse.

In a statement, a Catalan club spokesman said: “The exams underwent by Scott Dureau at the neurological surgery department of the Toulouse Rangueil Hospital have found nothing wrong and are reassuring.

“Scott Dureau will have a final exam next Thursday to determine if he can receive the green light to come back to the competition.”

Dureau was left out of the Dragons team that played Hull last Saturday and the club do not have a fixture this weekend because of the international origin game.
