Tiger facing NRL ban for late shot

Wests Tigers backrower Luke Garner is facing a one-game ban for a late shot which resulted in him being sin-binned during Saturday’s NRL loss to Canterbury.

Garner was binned for the shot on Bulldog Lachlan Lewis in the first half of the 18-16 defeat and has been slapped with a grade one dangerous contact charge by the match review committee.

With 35 carry-over points to be added, he will have to serve a one-match ban regardless of whether he takes an early guilty plea or challenges the charge and loses at the judiciary.

The 23-year-old returned to score the final try of the but Paul Momirovski sprayed the conversion attempt which would have sent the match into golden point.

Bulldog Christopher Smith, who was also sin-binned for a late shot on Ryan Matterson in the match, has also been charged with grade one dangerous contact.

Smith will escape a ban with an early plea.

In other judiciary news, Gold Coast back Brian Kelly has been charged with a grade one dangerous throw on St George Illawarra’s Patrick Kaufusi but will not face a ban with an early guilty plea.

Fellow Titan Tyrone Peachey has been charged with a grade one careless high tackle on Korbin Sims in the 40-28 loss at Kogarah.

Peachey will be fined $1150 with an early plea or take a $1500 fine if he contests the charge and loses.
