Tigers call presser: Sheens speculation

Wests Tigers have called a press conference for Tuesday afternoon where it is expected the NRL club will announce they have parted ways with veteran coach Tim Sheens.

Sheens’ future was under a microscope as the club ordered a review into its operations following a dismal campaign in which the Tigers failed to reach the finals despite being rated title favourites before the season.

His position has reportedly become untenable as a result of a player revolt, with the squad upset at the cleanout which had resulted in popular figures Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington being released to join Cronulla.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys earlier on Tuesday denied reports the four-time premiership winning mentor had quit, but he is expected to announce the two parties have ended their association after ten years at a press conference at 4pm (AEST).

Sheens has two years remaining on his contract worth around $900,000.

Sheens, who has coached more NRL matches than anybody in the history of the game, has already been linked with the head coaching vacancy at the Warriors.

The Tigers are rumoured to be lining up highly-rated Manly assistant Matt Parish to take over at the club, though it is not known if the new coach will be announced on Tuesday
