Tigers declare no interest in Latrell

Latrell Mitchell’s NRL options for next season have narrowed once again after the Wests Tigers distanced themselves from the Sydney Roosters star.

CEO Justin Pascoe has revealed having no contact with Mitchell or his manager since withdrawing a rich contract offer for the Kangaroos centre last month.

It was believed the club had left the door ajar to reopen negotiations with Mitchell, but Pascoe has denied there is another offer on the table, despite being in the market for a strike player.

“There’s still speculation that he’s around and we’re interested,” Pascoe said on Wednesday.

“We’re trying to build a culture around this club as a destination club where players and staff can be really proud to be here and want to be here.

“We’ve had no further conversation; we have no offer on the table at this point.”

The Tigers’ withdrawal from the chaos comes after Mitchell was linked to Roosters’ arch rivals South Sydney as a possible destination in 2020.

The Rabbitohs are expected to announce the retention of State of Origin half Cody Walker, while they are still chasing Gold Coast forward Jai Arrow who is torn between loyalty and a move to Sydney.

Salary cap space at the Redfern club will be limited should Arrow be lured south for 2020, however the Titans would need to release him from the final year of his contract.

Wherever he lands, the Roosters may be required to pay some of Mitchell’s salary if they grant him a release by January 1.

Titans are the only other NRL club who have publicly declared their interest in the embattled centre.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have filled just 26 places on their NRL roster and are active in the market for 2020.

Pascoe hinted the club would make another signing announcement at the end of this week.

“We’re very targeted with who we’re actually trying to chase,” he said.

“It’s going to take time but we want players who want to be here.

“We’re looking for probably a bit of speed and some more scoring power.”
