Parramatta fan favourite Tim Mannah will skip a final-round NRL farewell as he prepares for a reserve grade semi-final for the Eels.
Not sighted in the NRL since round 11, Mannah is off contract at the Eels and won’t remain at the club in 2019.
He was formally farewell at the club’s presentation night on Monday, and it remains unclear whether he will play on elsewhere in 2020.
It had been expected he would wave goodbye to fans at Friday night’s last-round game against Manly at Bankwest Stadium.
But with a NSW Cup semi-final for the Eels-affiliated Wentworthville Magpies scheduled at 10:45am on Saturday, Mannah won’t be paraded at Friday’s match alongside departing forward Manu Ma’u.
“True to Tim’s professional work ethic and commitment to his teammates, he has chosen to focus on preparing for the Canterbury Cup semi-final match,” Parramatta said via a statement.
“Therefore (he) does not wish to have any career celebration at Friday’s match against the Manly Sea Eagles.
“The club will continue to work with Tim on the most appropriate plan to ensure members and fans can recognise and thank Tim for the contribution he has made to the Eels, both on and off the field since 2004.”
The former NSW State of Origin forward has played 233 games for the Eels, and was a rookie when they reached the 2009 grand final.
However his career is arguably most noteworthy for his loyalty, as he stuck with the Eels during a horror run on and off the field between 2010 and 2016.
“I’ve got so many memories,” Mannah said during the club’s Ken Thornett Medal awards night on Monday.
“I’ve had 10-11 years in the NRL, but I’ve been here since I was 14. Those years have had a huge impact on the person and man I’ve become.
“Looking back growing up, I was never the most talented player … what I always had to rely on was hard work.
“My work ethic is something I definitely got from my father, who I looked up to.”
