Tupou is Origin tough says Jennings

Daniel Tupou’s incredible acrobatic efforts for the Sydney Roosters have helped him earn his NSW State of Origin debut.

But so too has the dirty work he consistently does for the premiers, says Tupou’s tricolours and Blues teammate Michael Jennings.

Jennings believes Tupou’s ability to make the tough yardage out of his own end hasn’t been lost on those who matter, including NSW coach Laurie Daley.

“He will bring that toughness to the team,” Jennings said.

“Those tough hitups that he does where some players just won’t do it, that’s what he does and it is an important part of his game.

“Laurie has picked a tough side and Toups is part of it.”

Tupou’s club combination with Jennings on the Blues’ left side could be vital at Suncorp Stadium in the interstate opener on Wednesday.

The duo scored a combined 34 tries in the Roosters’ premiership winning season last year.

Jennings is a proven big game player and Tupou said was he glad to have him alongside him on his debut.

“It’s great to have another Rooster there,” Tupou said.

“He has been great.

“He is someone who knows my game and I know his, so that is a help.

“He has been giving me a lot of advice about what to expect.

“It is daunting but it is a really big challenge for myself and I am looking forward to it.”
