Wests ‘scrapping’ to make NRL finals: Mybe

Wests Tigers are only one win outside the NRL top eight but star halfback Luke Brooks says they can’t afford to drop another game if they want to push for a premiership this season.

The joint-venture club are once again fighting to make finals with eight games remaining and face a tough road trip to Canberra on Saturday.

Brooks emphasised their attack is improving despite faltering in a disappointing loss to Parramatta last week.

“Our attack was pretty good on the weekend, just our ball handling and too many errors cost us,” Brooks said.

“My form is the same as the team, a bit up and down, obviously I can play a lot better than what I have been.

“It’s pretty much like this every year. We’re obviously still with a chance to make finals. Just those little things in the game are costing us and becoming big things.

“We pretty much need to win every game. You win games, you build belief and momentum and that can kickstart the season.

“Canberra is always a tough trip but we’ll be up for it.”

Skipper Moses Mbye admitted the club had developed a trend of leaving their run late in recent years.

“It seems to be a bit of pattern. We’ve hindered ourselves with opportunities and let a few games slip there through the year,” Mybe said.

“Now we’ve got to the spot we were last year, scrapping for the eight, but we’re not out of the fight.

“We need to get some momentum and no better place to start than this weekend in Canberra.”

The Maroons utility said he was enjoying his move to the centres and would continue to play where he was told.

“We’ve got a few options there but we’re making it work for the time being,” Mbye said.

“We’ve got Thommo (Corey Thompson) at the back there and he’s been playing some good footy for us.

“I’ve been finding my feet in the centres and managed to string a few games together now. I’m confident there.

“Now we just have to start winning some games.”
