Winterstein set to sign with Penrith

Frank Winterstein is set to take up an NRL contract with Penrith after he was formally released by Manly on Tuesday.

Winterstein trained with the Panthers squad on Monday however the Panthers are yet to formally announce his signing.

After making his NRL debut in 2016, Winterstein played 41 first-grade matches for the northern beaches club.

“We thank Frank for his contribution to our club and wish him every success in his future endeavours,” Sea Eagles CEO Lyall Gorman said.

“He has been an outstanding ambassador on and off the field.”

Winterstein’s signing will bolster the Panthers pack, which has been hit by the departures of Corey Harawira-Naera and Trent Merrin.

The 32-year-old will also be a handy replacement for left-edge back-rower Viliame Kikau, who will miss the first three rounds with a knee injury.
