Preview:
The 10-4 New England Patriots travel to Baltimore today to take on the 8-6 Ravens in a key AFC matchup with major playoff implications.
Despite double-digit wins, and their current status as the second overall seed in the AFC, the Patriots still have not officially locked down a playoff spot yet. They would win the AFC East with a win over the Ravens and maintain their hold on a bye week.
A loss to the Ravens and the Patriots could be facing a must-win matchup in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills.
The Ravens are in a tight playoff race of their own and must win to keep pace with the Miami Dolphins. The Ravens currently hold the sixth seed by virtue of their head-to-head tie breaker with Miami. The Ravens beat the Dolphins 26-23 in Week 5.
The Patriots and Ravens have met in the last two AFC Championships and have developed one of the best new rivalries of ’10’s. The Ravens’ 33-14 pounding of the Pats in the 2009 AFC divisional round was the first major salvo fired.
The teams are 2-2 since that matchup, with each taking an AFC title.
Now, with both teams still fighting for playoff position, this latest installment should be another tight game that goes down to the wire. These are two tough football teams that have a healthy dislike for each other.
It should make for a great football game.
