Preview:
The Heat won their home leg of the cross-conference season series with the Blazers last month. Goran Dragic (29 pts, 13 ast) was on fire off the bench for Miami, while Bam Adebayo (20 pts, 8 reb, 6 ast) also stepped up with Jimmy Butler sidelines. For Portland, Damian Lillard (34 pts, 12 ast) and Hassan Whiteside (21 pts, 18 reb) put up solid numbers.
The 24-29 Trail Blazers are ninth in the West. They have won five of their last seven, but bookended a home win over the Spurs with road losses to the Nuggets and Jazz in their last three.
Lillard is in scintillating form. Recently the guard became the first player in NBA history to average 45 points and 10 assists over a six-game span. He has put up 50-plus points in three of Portland’s last nine games.
The 34-17 Heat are fourth in the East but have split their last 10 games 5-5. They are coming off back-to-back road losses to the Clippers (128-111) and Kings (105-97).
Butler missed the game in Sacramento with a shoulder complaint and may be out again. On the plus side, all three players acquired by Miami before the trade deadline – Andre Iguodola, Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill – should be available.
The Blazers are 14-11 at home this season and winning six of their last seven at Moda Center. The Heat are just 12-14 on the road, winning only three of their last 10 away.
The NBA’s best team ATS at home, Miami are only 11-14-1 against the line on the road. Portland are just 10-13-2 ATS at home but improving rapidly.
Uncertainty around Butler gives the Blazers a handy leg-up – particularly given their strong recent run in Rip City, where the Heat have won only one of their last five.
Odds:
Tip: Portland Trail Blazers at $1.43
