The Breakers and the Phoenix meet for only the second time on Friday night as both teams look to improve on a pair of close calls last weekend.
South East Melbourne survived an overtime scare to win 112-105 over the Taipans. The Breakers weren’t quite so fortunate though, losing by three-points at home to Adelaide in a thriller.
These two sides last met in Melbourne as the Phoenix walked away comfortable 25-point victors in Round 4. This time around Simon Mitchell’s side will need to dig deep on the road – something the Phoenix have struggled to do at times this season.
South East Melbourne has won only two of its five games on the road this year, which explains the even money on offer in the market.
The Breakers, meanwhile, improved to 4-4 at home with a win over the Bullets a fortnight ago, also extending New Zealand’s impressive record as the home favourite to 8-2 over the last calendar year.
The Kiwis will have their hands full with the top points scoring side in the league, but with the Phoenix playing for the first time as a team across the ditch, it’s worth sticking with the home side.
