This week on the Web.com tour is the final event of the Tour’s Final series. 125 golfers will be fighting it out for the last 25 spots on the PGA Tour for 2013-14. That card is what it is all about!
We are off to Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida to pay a visit to TPC Sawgrass. The tournament is being played on the Valley course. While it is not as famous as the Stadium course, it is still a true test of a players skills and patience.
To play well here you need to hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens. If you cant do this then you are in for a tough 2 days as you probably wont make the cut. This course has a habit of biting you hard if you get into trouble. It also helps to be a good scrambler incase you do find yourself in trouble.
All the past winners have ranked highly in GIR stats as well as scrambling so look for someone that hits it straight and hits thier fair share of greens.
The bookies Top 5 in betting are 11/1 John Peterson, 12/1 Ben Martin, 25/1 Michael Putnam, 25/1 Ryo Ishikawa and 28/1 Russell Knox.
The two players to follow this week are-
Alex Cejka 200/1 www.sportsbet.com.au
When it comes to experience on the web.com tour you cant go past Alex Cejka. He has had 10 professional victories during his career. Alex has also represented Germany in eleven World Cups and four Alfred Dunhill Cups. To top it off Cejka has made 13 cuts from 21 Major starts.
His season on the Web.com tour this year has seen him make 11 cuts from 20 starts. Two of those cuts were Top 10 finishes. They were 6th in the United Leasing Championship in June and 7th in the Utah Championship in July.
Alex is coming off a T48th at the Nationwide Childrens Hospital Championship. He is ranked 31st in putting average, 32nd in scoring average and 41st in scrambling on tour this year.
When it comes to Sawgrass he will take some good memories into this week after posting a 9th and 12th from six starts on the Stadium course in the Players Championship.
Expect to see him up there challenging over the weekend. I expect Cejka to be a great trade option too.
Troy Matteson 50/1 www.sportsbet.com.au
Matteson started the season the PGA Tour where he made 10 cuts from 24 starts which resulted in two Top 25 finishes.
From there he jumped onto the web.com tour and has had the three starts. T41st Hotel Fitness Championship, T6th Chiquita Classic and T14th Nationwide Childrens Hospital Championship. So we know he’s hitting the ball well at the moment.
When he is hitting it well Troy can play some great golf. Lets hope that form continues this week. At 50/1 he represents a great each way selection.
Good luck and good punting.
