The Wolf at Sportsbet has been hard at it doing Olympics form, hunting for winners in sports from archery to weightlifting and everything in between. Here are The Wolf’s Tokyo 2020 tips for Day 7 on Friday.
Tips brought to you by Sportsbet.
Fencing
BET: Japan – Men’s Team Epee – Gold at $7.00
It is surprising Japan are such a big price in their preferred epee event. They have four of the world’s top 25 men in the epee and performed well with a quarter finalist and two making the Round of 16. This will be pegged as their best chance to take a medal on the piste.
SWIMMING
Women’s 800m Freestyle – Gold
BET: Ariarne Titmus at $5.00
Katie Ledecky is the heavy favourite for the 800m but is surely vulnerable against the upstart Ariarne Titmus. Titmus beat Ledecky in both the 200m and 400m. Ledecky won the gold at 1500m but was miles off her PB. Titmus is not a renowned 800m specialist but her form alone can get her home here.
Men’s 1500m Freestyle – Gold
BET: Florian Wellbrock at $2.37
German Florian Wellbrock has three of the 10 fastest 1500m times of all-time and these distance races tend to see the class rise to the top. Those times were all recorded in the last three years including a 14:36.45 this year at the German Trials.
SHOOTING
Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions – Gold
BET: Nina Christen at $5.50
Swiss shooter Nina Christen looks a great bet to beat the favourite in the 50m Air Rifle 3 Positions. Her form at recent World Cup events in this event is exceptional. She won the gold at New Delhi in 2019 and has a silver and a bronze in the two World Cups this year.
BASKETBALL

BET: Japan at $1.80
The US Women’s team looked clunky and very poor in their opening round clash with Nigeria, sneaking home by just eight points. Japan are ranked 10 in the world and have won the last four Asia Cups. They have no current WNBA players on their roster but they did beat France first-up. Big line.

BET: Australia at $1.80
The Opals were appalling in their opener against Belgium so are in a major bounceback spot. China are no pushover but the Opals are chock full of WNBA talent including Alanna Smith and Steph Talbot. This is a must-win for the No.2 team in the world.
