Australia top pool at London Sevens

Australia’s men’s rugby sevens team have topped their pool in London after winning all three games on the opening day of the event at Twickenham.

Australia will next face England in the Cup quarter-final after beating Ireland 33-7, Wales 20-12 and Spain 28-22 on Saturday.

“Generally when you perform, you’re going to win but we didn’t perform to our best and still won and that’s a sign of a good team,” Australian coach Tim Walsh said.

“Positives is three wins. Good to see Joey Pincus get over the line, Triston Reilly too and Lewis Holland leading from the front and some good patches.

“But it’s all about consistency and we’re certainly going to have to rectify a few things tomorrow.

“Beating England at Twickenham would be pretty good but we’ll just make sure we’re ready.”
