Chiefs call up All Blacks for Reds trial

The Chiefs will give their All Blacks contingent more of a run in their Super Rugby pre-season match away to Queensland on Friday night.

Forwards Brodie Retallick, Sam Cane and Liam Messam have been named in the starting 15 for the fixture at Stockland Stadium on the Sunshine Coast.

First five-eighth Aaron Cruden and halfback Tawera Kerr-Barlow have also been included.

Retallick, Cane, Cruden and Kerr-Barlow all came on late in the Chiefs’ win over the Highlanders last weekend, while Messam, the franchise’s co-skipper with Craig Clarke, was not used.

Among those unavailable for selection against the Reds through injury were halfback Brendon Leonard (cheek), winger Lelia Masaga (knee) and prop Ben Afeaki (foot).
