The South Island rivalry will be renewed when the Crusaders welcome the Highlanders to Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch on Sunday.

While the record is heavily skewed in one direction, this is always an exciting contest and neither side can rightfully be written off at any stage.

The Crusaders have done what they do best all season – winning a lot, taking a prominent position on the ladder and giving themselves every opportunity at yet another piece of silverware.

Their first loss of the season at the hands of the Hurricanes two weeks ago was successfully avenged when they weathered a spirited fight from the Chiefs, and ultimately put the match to bed late in the picture.

A win here will all but secure top spot, and there is no doubt that the Crusaders will take a power of beating.

The Highlanders lack the class and depth of several other New Zealand franchises, but they put in for the full eighty every week.

They gave the second-placed Blues a serious match in Round 8 and while they would certainly need to produce a season-best performance to win this, I can’t find a reason why they won’t be competitive again.

The line is set at a whopping 15.5 points, and I think that the Highlanders are better than that.
