Two-test All Blacks flanker Matt Todd will sit out the rest of the rugby year after undergoing surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.
Todd, 25, suffered the injury during Canterbury’s NPC loss to Wellington last Saturday and surgery was recommended following a diagnosis on Monday.
A recovery period of up to six months means the openside is no chance of being selected on New Zealand’s season-ending tour of Japan and Europe.
He could also miss the start of the Crusaders’ Super Rugby campaign in February.
Todd made his Test debut this year, coming off the bench in games against France at New Plymouth in June and South Africa in Auckland this month.
