Another excellent opportunity awaits the Hurricanes when the winless Chiefs arrive in Wellington on Saturday afternoon.
The Canes’ slow start to the season is well and truly a distant memory and prior to their bye last weekend, they recorded three impressive victories in succession.
The Chiefs in fact stand as the only other club that they are yet to play (and defeat) and as long as they’ve held their condition, it’s tough imagining anything but a win this weekend.
The Chiefs were in their Round 8 contest with the ladder-leading Crusaders for most of the way, but as has become a habit this season, they weren’t able to finish off.
Buoyed by Aaron Cruden’s 100th game for the franchise, the Chiefs produced some slick rugby but were also hurt by Shaun Stevenson’s yellow card, which likely played a key role in their late demise.
There are still things to like about their performances, but given they are yet to record a win, it’s impossible to back them again this weekend.
The line is set at just 5.5 points and the Hurricanes should be able to cover that with relative ease.
