Larkham to join Irish rugby club Munster

Axed Wallabies’ attack coach Stephen Larkham is set to join Irish rugby powerhouse Munster.

A World Cup-winner in 1999, Larkham was culled from the Wallabies’ coaching team in the aftermath of a dismal international campaign in 2018 in which Australia slipped to seventh in the world rankings.

Since his demotion in February, the 102-Test veteran has been working with the Junior Wallabies, Wallaroos, Sevens and Super Rugby sides through a national coaching advisory role.

Providing Larkham can secure a visa, he will take up a role as senior coach at Munster until June 2022.

Limerick-based Munster’s now four-strong coaching structure is led by Johann van Graan and also includes forwards coach Graham Rowntree and defence coach JP Ferreira.

Former five-eighth Larkham, who started his coaching career in 2011 at his beloved Brumbies in Canberra, is expected to relocate in August.

“A big part of my decision lies in the values of the club and the importance they place on community. I have come from a very similar environment and know how effective and enjoyable that can be,” he said.
