The Melbourne Rebels have bolstered their Super Rugby front row with Queensland’s Ruan Smith and ex-Western Force prop Cameron Orr signing on.
South African-born Smith leaves the Reds after two seasons while he has also played for the Brumbies and Force as well as in Japan.
Smith, 29, said he felt the Rebels were finals bound.
“I know playing finals is what all teams want to achieve and I feel the Rebels are on the right path to achieving their expectations and goals,” he said.
“I have had a bit to do with Dave (coach Dave Wessels) in the past and I know the calibre of coach he is and I’m extremely excited to learn from him and the rest of the coaching staff.”
Former Australian schoolboy and under 20s representative Orr has spent time with the Force in the NRC and UK club Gloucester and was excited to join the Rebels.
“It’s great to get my first crack at Super Rugby after having had a taste of professional rugby in the UK,” said Orr.
“I’m really looking forward to mixing it with the Melbourne guys and testing myself in a pack with so many Wallabies.”
Prop Tetera Faulkner is departing Melbourne at the end of the NRC season.
