Runners up last season, the Queensland Reds will have their eyes on lifting the Super Rugby AU trophy in 2021.

Their season begins at home against traditional rivals the Waratahs, who they ended a seven year losing streak against in Round 1 last year.

It did not count for a whole lot when the Tahs demolished the Reds 45-12 in the return fixture but that was an aberration rather than the norm for the Reds in 2020.

New South Wales has talked up the “home grown talent” that will make up the bulk of their squad which is usually code for “we’re not expecting much so we’ll give the kids a run” however that unknown factor could play into their favour here.

I like the Reds to get the job done here but the -9.5 point line has me hesitant considering the Reds have a habit of playing to the level of their opponents and occasionally making things harder than they need to be.

Not to mention the interstate rivalry between these sides always seems to bring out the competitiveness in the underdog.
