Before the Champions League was put on pause, we had a very simple preview for this match that still largely holds true.
“Bayern’s performance in the first leg showed the gulf in class between the German champions-elect and the Premier League’s third or fourth best team.
It’s why even with a three goal advantage headed back to Munich, they will put in a business-like performance and ensure Chelsea is put to the sword in this contest.”
The only thing that might stop that storyline still playing out is the fact Bayern’s last properly competitive fixture came on July 5 in the German Cup Final which was a 4-2 win for the Bavarian side.
Chelsea not only lost the FA Cup Final last weekend but will be forced to go into this match without Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic and Pedro who all left the final with injuries.
It further depletes Chelsea’s playing stocks and it seems very unlikely they will be able to overturn this deficit and even win the second leg.
