Macarthur FC are sixth on a congested A-League ladder. The newcomers are only three points off second but also have three teams breathing down their necks three points or less in arrears.

The Bulls are also on a five-match winless streak. They have drawn their last three games against Newcastle (2-2), Melbourne City (1-1) and Perth (0-0).

Scoring goals has been an issue for Ante Milicic’s side. Macarthur have scored more than two goals in a game just once, while their 24 goals is better than only the bottom-two Victory and Jets, and they are the only team in the top nine on the table with a negative goal differential.

Matt Derbyshire is responsible for 11 of their goals – second in the league.

Melbourne Victory appear determined to show some spirit late in a torrid campaign.

After their horrific 7-0 loss to Melbourne City and the firing of manager Grant Brebner, the ailing heavyweights have beaten Wanderers (5-4), gone down fighting to Sydney FC (1-0) and drawn with high-flying Central Coast (1-1) under interim coach Steve Kean.

Callum McManaman produced the 62nd-minute equaliser against the Mariners.

But the Victory – lining up for their fourth game in 14 days – will be without McManaman, Ben Folami and Storm Roux.

Macarthur are warm $2.00 Best of the Day favourites and boast five wins and a draw from 10 away games. But the Victory have shown genuine improvement since their upheaval, while the Bulls have stalled somewhat.
