Rooney’s horse finishes last in first race

Wayne Rooney’s successes on the football pitch are yet to transfer to the racecourse.

The Manchester United striker endured a miserable debut as a racehorse owner when his colt finished last in its first race on Wednesday.

Two-year-old Pippy was always towards the rear after a slow start and he never got into the race, which was run at Chester in northwest England.

The horse is jointly owned by Rooney and wife Coleen, who both watched the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Stakes.

Their other horses are called Switcharooney and Tomway.
