One of the better matches in Round 11 of the A-League takes us across the ditch on Saturday afternoon, where the Wellington Phoenix will host Sydney FC.
Wellington have been playing with plenty of spirit so far this season and while they have only coveted three wins, they have been extremely consistent and looks good for a finals campaign at this stage, particularly with so many other clubs misfiring. They are undefeated for five weeks but do face their sternest task to date in Sydney FC.
This was the result I got wrong last week – I anticipated an enormous win for Sydney over the Mariners and while they did only scrape by (1-0), winning is winning and they’ve strengthened their position at the top of the ladder. They are now five points clear of the second-placed City but with scope to increase the gap further.
It would take a braver man than me to tip against the Sky Blues in current condition.
