Bouchard reaches French Open last eight

Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard reached the French Open quarter-finals on Sunday with a quickfire 6-1 6-2 thrashing of German eighth seed Angelique Kerber.

The youngest player left in the women’s draw at 20 years and 103 days, Bouchard showed no nerves in winning the first five games of the opening fourth round tie in just 19 minutes before Kerber managed to open her account.

The German was more competitive at the start of the second set, but a break of serve in the third game sent Bouchard on her way into the last eight in Paris for the first time.

The 18th seed will play the winner of the tie between Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia and Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain for a place in the semi-finals.
