Canada ace questions timing of ATP Cup

World No.15 Denis Shapovalov has questioned the timing of the inaugural ATP Cup, saying it is “strange” it is being held so soon after the revamped Davis Cup.

Preparing in Brisbane for the 24-team ATP Cup which starts on Friday barely a month after the revamped Davis Cup in Spain, the 20-year-old Canadian said ideally there would be only one “world championship” of tennis.

“I think it is a little bit strange to have it at a similar time as Davis Cup. It would be great just to have one event that is a world championship,” he said.
