Del Potro wins, Ebden out of Swiss tennis

Juan Martin del Potro dominated in a 7-5 6-1 win over American Brian Baker on Thursday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament.

The second-seeded Argentine pounded 10 aces on his favoured hardcourt surface and never faced a break point against the 57th-ranked Baker.

In Friday’s quarters, Del Potro faces the winner of the late match between Marinko Matosevic of Australia and South African Kevin Anderson.

Top-seeded Roger Federer has a last-eight match against Benoit Paire of France, who won on Thursday against Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-4 6-4.

In other second-round matches, sixth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny beat Matthew Ebden of Australia 6-3 6-1, and Paul-Henri Mathieu of France advanced by defeating Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-4.
