Novak Djokovic overcame a fierce challenge from Juan Martin del Potro on Sunday to defend his Shanghai Masters title.

Djokovic recorded a 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-3) victory, bringing the Argentine down to earth after his heroics against Rafael Nadal.

The 26-year-old Serb produced a double break at the Qizhong Tennis Centre to seize control of the first set.

Del Potro hit back strongly to level the match, but the No.1 seed came out on top in the deciding tie-break.
