Some time ago, many thought that Caroline Wozniacki was the real deal. And yes, she probably was the real deal a few years ago. However, even then, she was very average during the Grand Slams, losing even against much worse players that were, however, able to exploit her passive style by playing courageously. Garbine Muguruza Blanco can play courageously, so why shouldn’t she be the favorite here really? After all, she has beaten Wozniacki before, crushing her 6-2 6-4 in Miami last year.

Just look at her record – she is 12-1 so far this year, with her only defeat coming against Venus Williams back in Auckland. Since that loss, she has won ten matches in a row, losing only one set. How good is that? Very good, I would say. She is playing on a real high right now, she has beaten Wozniacki before, and the conditions should suit her more here. So why exactly are the odds even? Is it only because of her name? I would say so, which means that the only reasonable bet here is to go against her, especially after seeing her second set performance against McHale. Such a lapse would mean a loss here – and even without it, Muguruza Blanco should have the upper hand in this match-up.
