Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis won his sixth career ATP title and first on clay when he captured the Nice crown on Saturday, just a day before the start of the French Open.
Gulbis, who won in nearby Marseille earlier this year, saw off Argentina’s Federico Delbonis 6-1 7-6 (7-5) on Saturday to maintain his perfect record in ATP finals.
The 25-year-old world number 19 took his claycourt record in 2014 to 12-4.
Gulbis put out defending champion Alberto Montanes in the semi-finals before taking 98 minutes to see off world number 45 Delbonis.
The unpredictable Gulbis will face Poland’s Lukasz Kubot in the first round of the French Open where he reached the quarter-finals in 2008.
