Fourteenth seed Sofia Kenin has brought the curtain down on Coco Gauff’s Australian Open coming-out party, winning through to a maiden grand slam quarter-final.
In an all-American fourth-round affair, Kenin kept her cool to come back from a set down and score a 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-0 victory on Sunday over the teen sensation.
Kenin, 21, has never been past the fourth round at a major and she’ll have a golden chance to reach semi-finals at Melbourne Park, facing Serena Williams’ slayer Qiang Wang or Tunisian surprise packet Ons Jabeur.
