Keys breezes into Bris International semis

American Madison Keys has become the first player into the semi-finals of the Brisbane International after a confident straight sets win over compatriot Danielle Collins.

The 2017 US Open finalist reached the semis in Brisbane for the first time in four outings with a 6-4 6-1 win over 26-year-old Collins.

Keys, who eliminated local favourite Samantha Stosur in the second round, claimed the first set 6-4 and took an early advantage in the second, breaking Collins’ serve on the opening game of the set.

The world No.27 found herself down 0-40 in her second service game, but fought back to avoid going two breaks down.

Keys however would go on to break Collins’s serve twice more in the set as the 24-year-old closed out the win in one hour and eight minutes.

The victory means Keys moves to No.11 on the world rankings ahead of the semi-finals.

Keys will play the winner of the quarter-final match-up between American giant-killer Jennifer Brady and Czech seventh seed Petra Kvitova.

Friday’s other quarter-finals pits defending Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka against Holland’s Kiki Bertens.

Czech second seed and Brisbane defending champion Karolina Pliskova faces another American in world No.19 Alison Riske.
