In 2011, Petra Kvitova had the world at her feet after winning Wimbledon and rising to No.2 in the rankings.
Just 21 years old at the time, Kvitova appeared destined for big things.
But fast forward to the current day and Kvitova is yet to take the tennis world by storm.
Although she’s maintained her place in the world’s top 10, she hasn’t added to her sole grand slam title.
Now 23, Kvitova is hungrier than ever for success.
The world No.6 isn’t placing too much pressure on herself to become No.1, but she’s desperate to taste more glory at the slams.
“I am hungry for sure,” Kvitova said after recording a 6-1 6-0 victory over Spain’s Anabel Medina Garrigues at the Hopman Cup.
“I know how it feels winning to grand slam. It’s an incredible feeling so I want to win it again.
“But I know how tough it is.”
“Tough” is an understatement in a women’s field featuring 17-times grand slam winner Serena Williams.
Kvitova lost both of her encounters to Williams this year, but feels the American is beatable under the right circumstances.
“If she doesn’t really have a great day I think somebody can beat her,” said Kvitova, who pushed Williams to three sets during their meeting in Doha a few months ago.
“I’m sure everybody wants to improve and be as good as Serena. So for me it’s big competition.
“I played her two times last year. One of them was really close, and the other one was very quick.”
