Nick Kyrgios will round out his Wimbledon preparations at the Queen’s Club after agreeing to return for the sixth straight year.
A semi-finalist in 2018, Kyrgios and two-time champion Marin Cilic are the latest big names to commit to the pre-Wimbledon showpiece.
“I love playing on grass, and the Queen’s Club courts are as good as any in the world,” he said.
“I’d love to go deep at the Fever-Tree Championships and at Wimbledon this year. I’ve been playing well, so I’m pumped for what’s to come.”
Kyrgios looms as the most dangerous floater in the Queen’s Club draw after falling down the rankings this week due to injury.
A late scratching from Delray Beach with a wrist complaint before retiring mid-match against Ugo Humbert in his opener while trying to defend his Acapulco crown, Kyrgios dropped 16 places in the rankings this week to world No.39.
The one-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist and world No.13 needs a strong American hardcourt campaign or European claycourt swing to secure a seeding at The All England Club, which offers the 24-year-old his best hope of grand slam glory.
Kyrgios’ conduct at Queen’s has overshadowed his tennis over the last two years.
In 2018 he was fined STG13,000 ($A25,000) for making a lewd gesture with a water bottle, and last year’s histrionics over two matches in one day cost him almost STG14,000 ($A27,225).
In the first he accused a line judge of “rigging the game” and mocked and swore at umpire Fergus Murphy, and in the second he smashed a ball out of the stadium.
Kyrgios reached the last 16 of the Australian Open in January, losing in four tight sets to Rafael Nadal.
He and Cilic, the winner in 2012 and 2018, join Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, defending champion Feliciano Lopez and, fitness permitting, two-time Wimbledon winner Andy Murray in committing to play the event from June 15-21.
