Mens Wimbledon Tips, Odds and Best Bets – 2019

Roger Federer - Wimbledon

After winning the last three majors prior to the French Open, Novak Djokovic will be determined to bounce back to retain his Wimbledon title, but you cannot discount Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, along with a kid he’ll likely meet in the Quarters.

Best Bet

Novak Djokovic @ $2.35

Although I think the $2.35 is short, I still think Djokovic is the one to beat here. Was outstanding at The Championships in 2018 as the 12th seed, in particular a 10-8 fifth set win in the Semi Final against Nadal. Although ‘Joker’ didn’t feature in any ATP events between the French Open and Wimbledon, he’s played two exhibition games at the Boodles which is more than enough heading into the tournament. The Serbian has a tricky draw – veteran German Philipp Kohlschreiber to start with, and then the likelihood of star on the rise Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round and Tsitsipas in the Quarters.

Next Best

Rafael Nadal @ $7

You don’t often see Nadal at $7, but we have to be cautious not to translate Nadal’s French Open form to Wimbledon. Although he has won two majors here, they were in 2008 and 2010, and he’s not the same beast on grass that he is on the red dirt. This being said, despite a poor lead-up from an exhibition standpoint we know Nadal is a competitive beast and the ‘seeding saga’ is enough motivation to see him go deep in the tournament. The Spaniard does have a difficult draw, with a potential second round match-up with Nick Kyrgios – five years on since the massive fourth round upset. Then on to Shapovalov, Cilic, Thiem, Federer and Djokovic. I think he can reach the final with this difficult path, but won’t have enough in the tank to beat Djokovic.

Roger Federer @ $4

Going for Wimbledon title number 9, but he’s only one the won since 2013 (say that like it’s nothing). My point being, he’s not as dominant on the grass as he was during the 00s. Has a very friendly draw which goes a long way, and expect him to face Rafael Nadal in the Semi. Will be another classic between Federer and Nadal if they happen to reach the Semi, but I think Nadal will be ready with a tougher draw coming through and can get his rival on grass. Either way, I don’t think Federer will be any match for Djokovic in the Final if he does get past Nadal.

Milos Raonic @ $34

The big serving Canadian currently paying $4.75 to win Quarter 2 – lock it in. Has an outstanding record at Wimbledon, reaching the Quarter Final stage in four of his last five tournaments here. Is in the good quarter of the draw – Kevin Anderson seeded 4th (how!?!?) returning from injury after a 3-month layoff, and Alexander Zverev who is allergic to Grand Slam events. I expect Raonic to win his Quarter before stumbling into Djokovic.

Value Bet

Stefanos Tsitsipas @ $19

If you think Tsitsipas can beat Djokovic, which is possible, this is sensational value. When going through the draw, this Quarter Final match-up with Djokovic took the longest to decide. Tsitsipas has all the tools to win the entire tournament, and if he wasn’t on Djokovic’s side of the draw I feel he could have gone all the way and made the Final – but I’ve slightly got the Serbian ahead of him. Certainly worth a small bet at $19 – if he does beat Novak in that Quarter Final he’ll likely come into $3.

Matteo Berrittini @ $41

Keep an eye out on this guy. Not your typical Italian player in the Seppi or Fognini mould – Berrettini is a man mountain standing 6’5 and 90kg. The strongly built 23-year-old has moved to number 20 in the world, with a sensational grass court lead-up winning the Mercedes Open in Stuttgart and then reaching the Semis at Halle. The Italian balances his power game with a neat net game, perfect for grass court tennis.
