No.1 Nadal pulls out of Wimbledon lead-up

Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week’s traditional Wimbledon warm-up tournament at London’s Queen’s Club.

“I have spoken to my doctors and I need to listen to what my body is telling me,” the world No.1, who won his 11th French Open title on Sunday, said.

“Queen’s is a great event, I have happy memories of winning the title in 2008 and I wanted to come back this year. But it has been a very long clay court season for me with great results.”

It is the third consecutive year that Nadal has entered the tournament only to pull out before it has started.

Former world No.1 Novak Djokovic was this week added to a line-up headed by Nick Kyrgios and grand slam winners Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Marin Cilic and vanquished French Open finalist Juan Martin del Potro.
