Never mind the tweener, Ivan Dodig has the twister lob.
The Croatian doubles exponent pulled off a shot which Nick Kyrgios would be proud of at the ATP Cup on Monday, an incredible 180 degree lob that landed flush on the line.
Seemingly in no-man’s land, a few metres from the net, Dodig looked out of the point when Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz hit a backhand smash at his opponent’s feet.
But after missing a more traditional shot, Dodig pirouetted and reversed his forehand behind his back to deliver a stunning winner over the top of Hurkacz and partner Lukasz Kubot.
There was some initial suggestions Dodig touched the ball before his fancy footwork helped win the day, but the Croatian was having none of it.
“I definitely didn’t hit it with the hand. If (it) was, it was with my nail or something,” he said.
“And the point was, yeah, it happens once in a lifetime … it’s the best possible scenario.”
Dodig and partner Nikola Mektic won the match, which secured Croatia the tie, 2-1.
