Paszek wins Eastbourne tennis title

P – Tamira Paszek saved five match points to beat fifth seed Angelique Kerber 5-7 6-3 7-5 on Saturday to win the Eastbourne grasscourt event and claim her first WTA title since 2010.

Austrian Paszek, ranked 59th, spent two and three-quarter hours in fighting for the third title of her career after starting the week at the Wimbledon tune-up with just two match wins this season.

It was her first title since Quebec in September, 2010.

The unseeded Austrian fought back from a set and 4-0 down against defending champion Marion Bartoli in the semi-finals, and she trailed Kerber 4-2 in the final set.

Number eight Kerber missed out on her third trophy of 2012 after finally finding fitness following a series of injuries this season.

The men’s title will be contested between wildcard Andy Roddick and holder Andreas Seppi of Italy.
