Thiem is paying $1.40 to win a set in this match against Rafael Nadal, so you may as well take the value of Nadal to win in four or five. These two have met on 13 occasions across their career, with Nadal leading 9-4 – except 12 of those clashes have been on the red dirt. Their only other encounter was on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows in 2018, which was a five-set epic resulting in Nadal winning a fifth set tie-breaker 7-5. On recent form, Thiem has won two of their last five matches and taken a set in two of those losses. He’s been great on the hard courts over the last 12 months, and I expect him to challenge Nadal in this but I can’t see him beating the Spanish Bull. Nadal was amazing against Kyrgios, who threw everything at him, and still managed to emerge victorious in four. I’m expecting a similar result in this when he faces the Austrian.
