Serbia qualify unbeaten for ATP Cup finals

Novak Djokovic has added an exclamation mark to Serbia’s passage to the ATP Cup quarter-finals with a straights-sets win over rising Chilean Christian Garin.

Already assured of a spot in the last eight eight, Djokjovic’s 6-3 6-3 win in Brisbane sent Serbia into the knockout stages unbeaten.

Dusan Lajovic had given Serbia a 1-0 lead in the tie with a 6-2 7-6 (7-3) win over Nicolas Jarry earlier on Wednesday.

Serbia join Australia and Russia as unbeaten quarter-final qualifiers and will play for a last-four berth in Sydney on Friday.

Australia face Great Britain in Thursday’s opening quarter-final at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, before Russia meet yet-to-be-determined qualifiers.

The remaining four quarter-finalists will be decided on Wednesday, with eight nations still in the running.

Spain and Japan will square off for Group B honours in Perth, while Austria are bidding to keep their hopes alive against Poland in Sydney.

South Africa and Perth clash in Brisbane on Wednesday night trying to finish second behind Serbia in Group A.

Unbeaten Croatia play out-of-contention Argentina in Sydney on Wednesday night favoured to top Group E.

The two best pool runners-up also advance to the quarter-finals, leaving Belgium and Canada, both with 2-1 round-robin records, still in the hunt.
