Tomic sent packing by Evans in Stockholm

Bernard Tomic has been sent crashing out of the Stockholm Open, going down in three sets to new British No.1 Dan Evans.

Evans prevailed 6-4 1-6 6-3 in a tightly-fought encounter that lasted almost two hours in the Swedish capital.

Despite being ranked 184th in the world, Tomic was given direct entry to the main draw unlike Alexei Popyrin who is 90th in the ATP standings.

Popyrin overcome a slow start in his qualifying match to see off Japan’s Yuichi Sugita 1-6 6-2 6-3 – hurling down 12 aces in the process.

The 20-year-old will now meet German lucky loser Oscar Otte in the opening round and victory would see him face fourth-seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

John Millman will be in action on Tuesday when he faces Spanish fifth seed Pablo Busta Correno in his first round match.
