Australian Ajla Tomljanovic has bowed out in the first round of the Australian Open in heartbreaking fashion, losing in a third-set super tiebreak to Britain’s Johanna Konta.
Tomljanovic only dropped her serve once, but still went down 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 7-6 (10-7) in a marathon encounter lasting two hours and 51 minutes.
Konta, a semi-finalist at Melbourne Park in 2016, will play either No.18 seed Garbine Muguruza from Spain or China’s Zheng Saisai in the second round.
